Women's First Round Matches to Watch

Svetlana Kuznetsova (15) vs. Sara Errani

Kuznetsova has been struggling lately with her game and has not won many matches. Errani is always a threat to top players when they are off their game.

Serena Williams (28) vs. Bojana Jovanovski

This match-up is only on my list because I think it might be a little tricky. Williams is usually more nervous in first round matches because she has her undefeated first round record to uphold. I still think Williams will get through.

Ana Ivanovic (16) vs. Ksenia Pervak

As a huge fan of Ivanovic, I know that she usually loses matches that she shouldn’t because she mentally collapses when she faces an inspired player. Pervak recently reached the fourth round at Wimbledon but also lost in three sets to Sorana Cirstea in the first round at her latest event. I’ll be watching this match closely!

Agnieszka Radwanska (12) vs. Urszula Radwanska

This is just a fun sister act match-up! Their head to head is tied at 1-1 but I still expect Agnieszka to get the victory here.

Flavia Pennetta (26) vs. Aravane Rezai

Neither player has been playing well as of late so I feel either one can win this match. I really have no idea who takes this one but I’ll guess it goes to 3 with the victory going to Pennetta.

Christina McHale vs. Aleksandra Wozniak

McHale has had a wonderful summer and I’m hoping that she can back it up against the slightly more experienced Canadian.
