Women’s Fourth Round Matches to Watch at the U.S. Open

by Doni1212
Doni1212’s Record Thus Far: 26/48

Caroline Wozniacki (1) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova (15)
Wozniacki leads the Head to Head 4-2 including that 2009 match at the Open where she won the last two sets of that three set match in tiebreakers. Kuznetsova has not beaten her since 2009 and unfortunately it does not look like she will be consistent enough to do it here.

Ana Ivanovic (16) vs. Serena Williams (28)
My two favorite tennis players ever! This is definitely a bittersweet match-up for me as it is hard to cheer for one against the other. I expect Williams to get through in straights but I hope that Ivanovic makes it very competitive.

Francesca Schiavone (7) vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (17)
Although Pavlyuchenkova may appear to be the fresher of the two, Schiavone has proved that fitness is one of her greatest strengths on the tennis court having outlasted Kuznetsova in almost five hours of play during that epic match this year in Melbourne. Schiavone leads this head to head 3-1 including a 6-3 6-0 victory in the fourth round of this event last year.

Vera Zvonareva (2) vs. Sabine Lisicki (22)
Zvonareva has never lost to Lisicki and recently beat her in three sets at Carlsbad and a few months earlier in Paris during the French Open. These two also met last year at the Open and Zvonareva won in straights but was pushed to a tiebreak in the second set. I expect this match to be close like all the matches they have played and I think Zvonareva’s experience will pay off in the end.

  1. I agree about Woz and Williams but I think Pavly will beat Francesca in straight sets. Schiavone has been horrible the whole tournament!
